AP Capstone

The AP Capstone program is an innovative diploma program from the College Board that equips students with independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills through AP Seminar and AP Research courses. It challenges students to investigate real-world issues, develop evidence-based arguments, and present their findings to prepare for college-level coursework and beyond.

The AP Capstone program requires students to complete two courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. In AP Seminar, students must engage in cross-curricular discussions, analyze various perspectives on complex topics, and develop arguments supported by credible evidence. AP Research builds on these skills, requiring students to design, plan, and conduct a year-long research-based investigation on a topic of their choice, culminating in a 4,000–5,000-word academic paper and an oral defense of their findings. To earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students must score a 3 or higher on both AP Seminar and AP Research exams, as well as on four additional AP exams of their choosing.

AVID

AVID stands for “Advancement via Individual Determination”. It is an ACADEMIC ELECTIVE designed to both prepare (ensure that each AVID student enrolls in the required “a-g” coursework and take the tests for college acceptance) and ready (teach and instill in each AVID student the necessary academic and social skills) to maintain enrollment at the university. Each AVID student is encouraged to take the most rigorous courses possible.

California Scholarship Federation

Computer Science

Do you want to understand what the zeroes and ones mean in the matrix? Did you wonder what Mark Zuckerberg was doing in the Facebook movie? Do you want to have a high paying job? There is a shortage of people studying computer science even though Computer Science is shaping the world and currently influences every discipline of study. This course will help you think critically and help you build your resume. Think of where we were thirteen years ago with regard to technology and think of where we will be in thirteen years. Be prepared for the changing world. Unlike physical and life science, computer science is not a discipline limited by natural law; the only limitation is your mind.

Dual Language Academy

The Dual Language Program seeks to develop bi-literate students that are college ready by offering rigorous college prep courses in English and Spanish. The Dual Language Program course sequence consists of two years of instruction in Spanish in core content areas. Bi-literacy allows students to transfer high levels of language and cognitive skills, which in turn leads to a much stronger ability to gather and use information.
